Update: Chapel House Roof Restoration
Frederick Douglass Memorial Park is pleased to share an important update on the restoration of our historic Chapel House.
While work was originally scheduled to begin earlier this year, the project experienced an unexpected delay due to structural issues discovered during the initial phase of construction. In addition, work was temporarily placed on hold while required asbestos inspections, regulatory reviews, and permit approvals were completed to ensure the project met all state and city safety requirements.
After a two-month delay, we are happy to report that the project is once again moving forward.
Certified contractors have now begun the asbestos remediation phase of the project. This critical work is being conducted in full compliance with all applicable regulations and includes the safe containment, removal, and disposal of asbestos-containing materials before roof restoration can continue. Once remediation is complete, air quality testing and final inspections will be performed to ensure the site is safe before construction resumes.
Although these additional steps have extended the project timeline, they are essential to protecting the integrity of the Chapel House and ensuring the safety of everyone involved.
